Nuclear power is a significant source of electricity generation in various advanced nations; however, a few people assert we must forbid it and focus on alternative renewable resources. I agree with the statement to a certain extent since nuclear power has several advantages.
Nuclear is one of the cleanest sources of energy and generates electricity by emitting the same gases compared to renewables. Nuclear also requires substantially less land than wind and solar. Moreover, nuclear plants keep churning out energy even when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining. It has been a proven fact that nuclear power generates four times fewer greenhouse gases than solar. Hence, I think nuclear power has several merits.
Conversely, one section of society claims the authorities must use solar or hydropower instead of nuclear because they are less dangerous than nuclear. We cannot forget an incident that happened around 40 years ago namely the Chernobyl nuclear accident. It was caused by an unfortunate cocktail of human error and flawed reactor design. It was the worst nuclear disaster in history, releasing more than 400 times as much radioactive material as the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Therefore, it is better to use renewables like solar and hydel power to avoid such tragedies.
Furthermore, power from the sun harnessed through solar panels is abundant, inexhaustible, and arguably the best-known of the alternative energy sources. Further, a few nations like India and China have extensive rivers and can generate hydel power easily by constructing dams.
To conclude, undeniably nuclear power is dangerous compared to other green forms but it produces less pollution than renewables. Hence, I think the authorities must install reactors with stringent regulations.
