Describe a difficult decision you once made.
You should say:
- what the decision was
- when you made this decision
- how long it took to make the decision
- and explain why it was difficult to make the decision.
Right decisions play an imperative role in everyone's life. Some decisions are easier; however, a few are difficult. Here, I would like to talk about a difficult decision I made.
- What the decision was
This decision was all about my higher studies after completing my 12th standard in India. I decided of going to Canada after clearing my IELTS test.
- When you made this decision
I took this decision four to five months ago when my maternal uncle from Calgary visited us and he guided me about my bright future. Moreover, he recommended me in preparing for the IELTS test so that I could move abroad after getting good bands.
- How long it took to make the decision
It took around two months to decide on this matter since I love my country and parents, and therefore, it is an uphill task for me to head toward a foreign nation alone.
- Explain why it was difficult to make the decision.
There are a plethora of reasons why I found this decision difficult.
- Firstly, it was my childhood desire to live with my parents in the same nation under one roof. But, my uncle advised me in an apple-pie manner about my future owing to the fact, I decided to go abroad and hence, it was difficult to make this decision.
- Secondly, I love to share my full-day routine with my parents every evening sitting in the lounge area and having a cup of coffee. Thus, this decision was problematic for me since I will not get enough time to spend with my parents while residing in Canada. Moreover, I will not have adequate time to have a phone call with them. Hence, this decision was hard for me. However, after completing my IELTS, I will go abroad and get desirable education.
1. What decisions do people generally make in their daily life?
There are plenty of decisions people prefer to have in their daily life. The first one is what to wear since good clothes and dressing sense play an imperative role in everyday life. The second is what to buy or not. It means people usually have decisions about going for groceries and buying necessary items.
2. Which is easier, making a decision by oneself or making a decision after a group discussion?
Both are having their own merits and demerits; however, I am of the opinion that the former viewpoint outweighs the latter owing to a few reasons. The primary one is when we think alone we think by heart and hence, we can take proper and solid decisions since we know ourselves better than others. Secondly, we can have good outcomes when we think alone because we can answer our own questions.
3. Why are many young people unwilling to listen to their parent’s advice?
It is because of a number of reasons.
1. Firstly, they have different thinking levels and horizons owing to the advent of technology.
2. Secondly, they want to be independent due to which they dislike their parents' advice which is not a good idea.
3. Thirdly, they have been forced by peer pressure and hence, like to listen to their friends instead of their parents.
4. Why do middle-aged people tend to second-guess their decision?
I think second-guessing has nothing to do with age. We all tend to second guess our decisions when it’s a difficult decision and when we are not confident about the decision.
I think the best way to avoid second-guessing or rethinking the decision is to limit the choices and discuss them with close friends and family members.
