Some feel that individuals should have the right to strike in all jobs while others feel there are exceptions.
Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
The answer is submitted by our student Komal Sahota. It covers almost every area.
A strike is a collective protest by workers who want better wages and working conditions or to give vent to grievances. A few people argue that all workers should be free to go on strike regardless of where they come from; however, some think this is impossible for certain professions. This essay will discuss both schools of thought along with a suitable judgment.
On the one hand, advocates of the right to strike in all professions argue that the right to express dissatisfaction with working conditions and demand better pay and benefits is a fundamental human right. Moreover, it is an effective tool for negotiating with their employers, demanding better working conditions, wages, and benefits. The right to strike allows workers to fight for their rights in the fields of discrimination and exploitation.
On the other hand, opponents of a right to strike for all jobs claim that certain professions, such as emergency services and public transport, are indispensable services that cannot be disrupted without causing harm to society, just as the right of individuals to live their lives unfettered and the rights of the community to protect people's quality of life and its fundamental function must be given greater attention. For instance, if workers in a hospital's emergency department do not cure their patients because they are unhappy at work, they are playing with the lives of innocent patients.
After this discussion, I am confident that if a strike is not in conflict with the law, it shall be legal. Unless the reasons for its existence are entirely illogical or unreasonable, they cannot be justified. Although the right to strike is not a fundamental right, it is a legal right, and with this right comes a statutory limitation embedded in the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947.
To conclude, from the aforementioned reasons, some people disagree with me about the right to strike since they believe that it is a cause to harm economics; however, I think the strike is about individuals' freedom and power to bargain on behalf of workers, and it is an essential tool for improving the working conditions of employees.
