There are two process charts given below. One of these reveals information about the lifecycle of the silkworm which is continuous process, and the second one illustrates the production of silk cloth. Overall, the whole process is composed of different stages.

Starting with the first diagram, the silkworm lays a number of eggs on mulberry leaves. The budding embryos inside the fertilized eggs take ten days to form silkworm larva. These larvae keep feeding on mulberry leaves during their evolution, and they keep encapsulating by secreting silk threads, for four to six weeks. It takes three to eight days more to form a complete encapsulated structure called a cocoon. The larva inside the cocoon develops further giving rise to a mature moth after sixteen days.

Heading towards the second diagram, which describes six stages of silk cloth production that initiate with the first step of selection of healthy cocoons. In the second step, these cocoons are boiled in a container vigorously. The larva inside the cocoon dies, and the cocoon is unwound giving around 300 to 900m of thread. Afterwards, the thread is twisted to enhance its strength before dyeing it. The twisted thread can also directly be subjected to weaving without dyeing, and the final cloth obtained can be sent for dyeing.

  1. The given pictorial representation illustrates how egg develops into a moth Moreover, it reveals the contrasting stages of their life. Overall, the growth is alluded by embracing four phases along with it also depicts several processes involved in silk cloth productions.

The life cycle of a silkworm commences from the shell similar to eggs and terminates at silk moth. The eggs are laid securely by the mother worm and from these eggs the silkworm larvae are generated after 10 days. The silkworm larva usually eats leaves like mulberry leaves and concludes the secondary phase of the life cycle within 4-6 weeks. In their tertiary stage, they create silk thread shells and remain there for another 3 to 8 days and then fabricate an oval cocoon. The cocoon stage endures for around 16 days and they become moth in the final stage. With time the moths become grown-up adult and recycle the processes again.

Furthermore, to produce silk cloth silkworm cocoons are firstly hand-picked. Those are found suitable for production are subsequently boiled in water before being unwound in strands of silk that measures about 300 to 900 metres in length. From here, they are twisted and intertwined to form thicker silk threads. Some of the thread goes straight to the dyeing process while others are woven into a cloth which is then dyed.

Part - 3 - All Cue Cards

Part 3 belongs to all new cue cards from September to December 2022. We have written the answers on our own except for one topic. Hence, we hold the copyright status of the answers written by us. 1.  Describe an object you find particularly beautiful (For example, a painting, sculpture, piece of jewellery/furniture, etc.). 1. Do   you   think   there   are   more   beautiful   things   now   than  in  the   past? In my opinion, traditional art and sculptures are much more captivating. I think in the past, it was easier for artists to find shoppers in the form of kings and nobles and they could focus on their art without any financial worries. However, today it is much harder to earn money as an artist. The art being made today also reflects that – it is done more as a hobby rather than as a profession and the works produced are far behind those of the past. Moreover, nowadays artists rely on machine work instead of handmade items.  2.   Do you think there are many scenic spots in India
