A museum is an institution that cares for a collection of artefacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific importance. I have been to several museums so far and now going to talk about my favourite one and I visit it recently.

Name of the Museum? And Where it is?

The name of that museum is Virasat-E-Khalsa, which is located in the holy town of Anandpur, about 85 km from the State’s Capital Chandigarh. This place is situated on the banks of the holy river Sutlej.

With whom you go there?

I visited that museum with my family and relatives last week, and it was the most cherished moment.

What did you see in this museum?

I saw plenty of things at that museum that I am going to discuss now;

First of all, my awe-inspiring experience began at THE BOAT BUILDING which houses the largest hand-painted mural in the world, created by none other than the amazing Orijit Sen who is an Indian graphic artist and designer. I entered that gallery and it was pitch dark that suddenly broken by the sound of birds chirping and a blue tint of light.

Secondly, I was really impressed when I saw Punjab of 15th century followed by my journey to next building emphasising ONE GOD, revealing a crystal-lights installation which was pretty interesting.

Moreover, then I grabbed knowledge about the Growth of the Sikh Religion and the creation of the Holy City, Amritsar. After that, what I saw there, they have emphasised the teachings of Sikh Masters in a deep manner so that one can learn good moral aspects of life.

Finally, I was on cloud 9 when I read that On March 20th, 2019, visitor numbers have broken records as the museum has been recognised by the Guinness Book of the World Records by having a footfall of 20,569 visitors during that day.

Part 3 – Two-way discussion:

Q. How often do you visit museums?
A.  I love to visit museums, and once a month, I prefer to visit such places because by visiting a museum, I can enhance my thinking's horizon.

Recently, I visited the Virasat-E-Khalsa museum that is located in a holy city named Anandpur, and I have gained immense knowledge about historical facts.

Q. What type of museum is popular in your country?
A. India is a gigantic nation and thus, numerous museums are there throughout the country. Archaeological and Folklore museums are the most common kinds and those are visited by the majority of people. Apart from these, biographical, ethnographic and historic museums are also really liked in our country. Furthermore, there are art museums and galleries and some others that are about industry, science and technology. Moreover, a science museum named Pushpa Gujral Science City in Kapurthala, Punjab is so popular amongst young masses since it provides knowledge about the Universe.

Q. What do you think of the importance of museums in history?
A. My personal belief is that museums are of paramount importance and constitute an integral part of a country's history. As it is known, these constructions provide information about culture and heritage; in other words, museums keep history alive. To be more precise, museums include artefacts and different objects from the past and by placing them there, people are reassured that the items they see provide clear and accurate information about history, rather than reading books and magazines in which most of the details are subjective and theoretical. In addition, if I'm allowed to speak in economic terms, I would say that museums are history's brands and trademarks.

Q. How do you think of the heritage of a country?
A. It seems to me that the heritage of a nation isn't determined by only one thing. To begin, monuments, sculptures and temples are essential and they are representative examples as far as heritage is concerned. For example, the Parthenon in Greece, Statue of Liberty in the USA, Pyramids in Egypt, Tower of London in the UK is only some of the most significant structures that reflect each country's legacy. History composes an important part as well, by informing people about the achievements and failures of a territory and the reason why something is known and studied by many. Lastly, museums which we were talking about earlier couldn't be missing from this list, not only for all the important aspects they have but also because they are connected with the beauty and grandeur of a country.

Q. Compare museums nowadays and in the past.
A. Anyone who pays a visit to museums could say that nowadays museums are more beautiful, modern, have a rich collection, and convenient to visit than in the past. To elucidate, in the past, only a few people had access to them but these days they are open spaces for public knowledge. Furthermore, much more attention is given to the maintenance of museums now than in the past and most the museums are renovated not only for their preservation but also to attract more public interest. In addition, technological advances have played a fundamental role; with videos and audio helping visitors understand what they see and that makes their experience more pleasant, informative and interactive than in the past when these technological usages were absent.

Q: What are the tourist attractions in your city?
A. My hometown Ferozepur is a historical and imperial city that consists of various tourists attractions. Firstly, Saragarhi Shrine is located in the cantonment area. This shrine is associated with the historical Battle of Saragarhi that has also been recognized by UNESCO. Secondly, one can visit the international boundary to pay obeisance to the great martyrs during the partition of India. And, owing to this line of control, my city is called the Land of Martyrs. Thirdly, one can also go to the Anglo-Sikh War Museum located on the outskirts. Last but not the least, The Army Area, that has its own charm.

Part - 3 - All Cue Cards

Part 3 belongs to all new cue cards from September to December 2022. We have written the answers on our own except for one topic. Hence, we hold the copyright status of the answers written by us. 1.  Describe an object you find particularly beautiful (For example, a painting, sculpture, piece of jewellery/furniture, etc.). 1. Do   you   think   there   are   more   beautiful   things   now   than  in  the   past? In my opinion, traditional art and sculptures are much more captivating. I think in the past, it was easier for artists to find shoppers in the form of kings and nobles and they could focus on their art without any financial worries. However, today it is much harder to earn money as an artist. The art being made today also reflects that – it is done more as a hobby rather than as a profession and the works produced are far behind those of the past. Moreover, nowadays artists rely on machine work instead of handmad...

Speaking Part 1 - January to April 2023

Fast Food and Break Fast What do you have for breakfast? I prefer to have my favourite food items during the first meal of the day. Usually, I like wheat bread with freshly cooked vegetables like Okra, Turnip, beans and cauliflower. Along with this, I love to take a cup of tea. However, during weekends, my mother cooks stuffed bread for me, and amongst all these bread types, my favourite one is potato-filled bread with curd and homemade butter.  Do you eat fast food? Yes, I do, but once a fortnight, I prefer to have it. It is owing to the bad cholesterols present in junk food materials. In this category, I find cheese burst pizza, garlic bread and white sauce Italian pasta mouth-watering.  What are the different kinds of fast food in your country? Name them. India has an ocean of fast food materials. For instance, Chinese, Italian and American fast materials are the most popular ones in India. Moreover, we have traditional fast foods as well.  The first one is a sa...
