Practice Essay - April 17

Some think that the best way to stay fit is to join a gym or health club while others think doing everyday activities such as walking and climbing stairs is enough. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

This essay is submitted by our student Gurpreet Dhawan.

Undoubtedly, sound health is of utmost importance since it furnishes prolonged life and enables one to tackle harsh diseases as well. A few individuals believe that subscribing gym membership or health organization is the finest solution to attaining a healthy physique, whilst others assert performing regular chores such as walking and strolling stairs is adequate.

On the one hand, there are a plethora of aspects sustaining the former notion. The primary perspective is that joining a gym and health club has excellent apparatus to engage ourselves in performing plenty of exercises along with proper guidance from gym trainers. In brief, these days, every modern gym has electrical appliances, like treadmills, massage chairs, and so on. Moreover, these advanced gadgets are expensive and it is an uphill task for individuals to install these exercise equipment in their homes, and it is a proven fact that we can burn calories, or reduce excessive body weight much more rapidly in contrast with doing at home. Thus, people prefer to participate in the gym or fitness club so that they can exercise with the help of suitable weights, and under the eyes of helpers.

The secondary reason is that these places are specially maintained for performing exercises only, owing to which they create a positive and motivational ambience to perform various fitness activities. In-depth, for several people it is an arduous task to exercise consistently in their homes and sometimes they quit and face high demotivation too. As a result, gyms and health-conscious places come out to be a boon for the public to join them, and reap the benefits of such places with an attractive environment.

On the other hand, in an ocean of instances, delivering various tasks on foot and climbing stairs is advantageous for people. First and foremost is that by walking we can make our bones stronger. To be more precise, as we walk the cells establish more strength in our bones while responding to the brain through the spinal cord. For instance, recently the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that individuals who walk a lot have more strengthened bones compared to those who do not.

Another logic behind this phenomenon is that climbing stairs make our muscles flexible because when we climb, the pressure over the entire muscles upsurge which makes muscles more flexible. Therefore, it is beneficial for individuals not only for short period but also in the longer run.

After this discussion, I am of the opinion that gym and health clubs are more advantageous for those people that are working around the clock while sitting on a chair in the same body posture; conversely, it is sufficient to do walking and some other house chore for those that have to engross in physical activities throughout the day like farmers.

In conclusion, I believe in this technological era, it can be mandatory for everyone to join a gym so that they can starve away from diseases named hypertension, heart attacks and regular muscular pains.

Part - 3 - All Cue Cards

Part 3 belongs to all new cue cards from September to December 2022. We have written the answers on our own except for one topic. Hence, we hold the copyright status of the answers written by us. 1.  Describe an object you find particularly beautiful (For example, a painting, sculpture, piece of jewellery/furniture, etc.). 1. Do   you   think   there   are   more   beautiful   things   now   than  in  the   past? In my opinion, traditional art and sculptures are much more captivating. I think in the past, it was easier for artists to find shoppers in the form of kings and nobles and they could focus on their art without any financial worries. However, today it is much harder to earn money as an artist. The art being made today also reflects that – it is done more as a hobby rather than as a profession and the works produced are far behind those of the past. Moreover, nowadays artists rely on machine work instead of handmade items.  2.   Do you think there are many scenic spots in India

Speaking Part 1 - January to April 2023

Fast Food and Break Fast What do you have for breakfast? I prefer to have my favourite food items during the first meal of the day. Usually, I like wheat bread with freshly cooked vegetables like Okra, Turnip, beans and cauliflower. Along with this, I love to take a cup of tea. However, during weekends, my mother cooks stuffed bread for me, and amongst all these bread types, my favourite one is potato-filled bread with curd and homemade butter.  Do you eat fast food? Yes, I do, but once a fortnight, I prefer to have it. It is owing to the bad cholesterols present in junk food materials. In this category, I find cheese burst pizza, garlic bread and white sauce Italian pasta mouth-watering.  What are the different kinds of fast food in your country? Name them. India has an ocean of fast food materials. For instance, Chinese, Italian and American fast materials are the most popular ones in India. Moreover, we have traditional fast foods as well.  The first one is a savoury stuffed pastr

Moreover, I can easily memorise the mobile number of people.  However, I find it difficult when I have to recall the names of those who are from another culture, especially East and South Indian, owing to their uniqueness.   Do you do anything to help you remember people’s names?  Not all the time, I think it is necessary to use anything in remembering people’s names. More specifically, if the people are from my province Punjab, then I can remember easily because of similarity; however, if the people are from another culture, then I prefer to write their names on my pocket diary to remember them.  How do you feel when people can't remember your name?  I don’
